Venerable Brian K. Smith (Sumati Marut), is Professor Emeritus of Religious Studies at the University of California, Riverside, and is the author of several scholarly books and translations based on Sanskrit materials. He has taught Asian Classics Institute courses in Los Angeles since 2000, and has been invited to teach in S. Lake Tahoe, New York, Ireland, and elsewhere.

Ven. Marut is presently on the faculty of Diamond Mountain University in Arizona in Arizona where he teaches Sanskrit, and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Yoga Studies Institute and teaches courses on the Sanskrit classics of yoga as part of that organization. He also teaches in the Yoga Philosophy Program at Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles.
